Debra is founder of Law Leaders Lab, a law firm strategy company focused on leadership and transformation in the legal profession. Law Leaders Lab was acquired by Growth Play in January of 2016.
A licensed attorney, Debra has served in executive-level marketing and business development positions for both a Global 100 law firm and a leading legal technology company. She also was an award-winning journalist for the ABA Journal, where she covered law practice management and business ethics. Her unique blend of journalism, legal and business experience helps her analyze issues, distill complex ideas, and deliver key messages in clear and compelling ways.
She has presented on a variety of law industry topics before local and international audiences and is author of the blog Law Firm Transitions and a proprietary research report, “The Evolution of Value in Legal Services.” She is also an adviser to Northwestern Law Schools Center for Practice Engagement and Innovation.
Based in San Diego, Debra serves on the executive committee of Pro Kids l The First Tee of San Diego, a non-profit organization that use the game of golf to inspire leadership and character among children in under served communities. She is also active in the Thursday Club and the Thursday Club Foundation, where she has held several board positions. She has been recognized among the San Diego Business’ Journal’s top, “Women Who Mean Business,” and by San Diego Metro Magazine’s “Women Impacting San Diego.
Bob Beach is an expert in technology strategy, design, and implementation. In his 15+ years in the legal technology space he has worked for several industry leaders, including Interface Software, Thomson Reuters, and XMLAW, designing and building software solutions and providing consulting services to dozens of Am Law firms, as well as several firms in the UK. His work with law firms has encompassed everything from the development of strategic plans and business justifications to detailed requirements analysis and project/product roadmaps to technology selection and implementation, and the program, project and change management skills to ensure successful execution. He has direct, hands-on experience with most major law firm technology platforms and systems, including client relationship management, knowledge management, document/records management, time and billing, docketing, and intranets/extranets. He also has 10+ years of experience outside of legal, primarily in business and technology consulting to Fortune 500 business, and including a 2-year stint leading product management for a mobile learning startup.
